My birth story

Hey all! I want to share a little bit of my birth story now that I am feeling better. It has already been a month since I had baby Liberty! Crazy how time flies!! There might be a little TMI in here so proceed to read only if you feel like it. You are warned:)
My little munchkin made her appearance on Monday March 2nd. That morning I went into work not expecting to go into labor at all. I was beginning to have that "desperate" feeling many woman feel as their due dates comes closer. I wanted to be done being pregnant and just have her already! The week before having my baby I tried everything in the books to make her come. Jogging, eating spicy food, and pineapple. You name it, I tried it. And so when she didn't come I figured she was just going to make us wait until her due date. In one last ditch effort, Sunday night the 1st I had a dance party at my house to see if I could shake her out. Now I am not saying that it was what caused me to go into labor the next morning but maybe it did help!
On the 2nd, I had been cramping all morning but didn't think anything of it because it didn't "feel" like contractions to me. I was at work for about an hour when walking out of my office, I had a major cramp that caused to to have to hold onto the wall. Then all of a sudden I felt a gush. Freaking out, I waddled to the bathroom to figure out what was going on. I thought my water might have broken but I discovered I was beginning to bleed. To say I was freaked out was an under statement!! Every horrible scenario started to flash before my eyes. It wasn't supposed to happen like this! I called my doctor and they didn't help to calm me either. They told me to rush to the hospital because I wasn't having contractions just bleeding. Now I work about 45 minutes away from the hospital I was delivering at and my car was on the big old E. I was kicking myself for not getting gas that morning on the way to work. As I was heading out of work, that's when the contractions started. I started having pretty heavy contractions about 4 minutes apart. That spurred me to drive just a little bit over the speed limit. Ok...Maybe a lot over the speed limit! During this time I was frantically calling my mom, sister and in-laws because I could not get in touch with my husband at all. Where he works did not have cell reception and I was mentally freaking out about him missing everything! Thankfully after a while of trying, my family was able to get in touch with him and he met me at the hospital. Once I got to the hospital, the nurses rushed me to triage to check the babies heartbeat. To my relief everything turned out to be fine. The baby was not in any type of distress and the nurses said the bleeding was probably due to the cervix opening. I was in active labor and so they admitted me to the hospital. From there things proceeded fairly quickly. The doctor came in and broke my water because I was already dilated to a 7. Once he did that, the contractions intensified to the point where I was needing drugs to get through them. I wanted to try to have the baby naturally but did not regret my decision to get an epidural. Honestly, I think there should be no shame with each persons decision on whether to go natural or not. To each their own when it comes to that decision!
The epidural did slow things down a little bit but not by much. Two hours later I was dilated to a 10 and in my mind ready to push. My nurse however let me labor down for another hour and an half before I began to push. I pushed for about a hour and a half before Liberty came. It was a surreal experience. I was laying there focusing on pushing when the doctor yelled at me to look down. I saw her little head and shoulders. He then directed me to put my hands down there and pull. I was in a state of shock and didn't fully realize what I was doing. I ended up pulling my daughter out! I was on cloud nine and couldn't keep the tears from falling. My little girl was here!! I held her close on my chest for a good 45 minutes before the nurses took her to be cleaned and weighed.
The entire labor process went quickly for me. I went into labor about 9 in the morning and had my daughter at 6:54 pm that same day. I had an amazing doctor and nurses! The entire process went smooth and I couldn't be happier with the experience. I was able to go home the following day and since that time it has been an unbelievable experience being a mom. I am loving it! I am so in love with my daughter and I can't believe how time has flown by. There is nothing like it. Being a mom is such a privilege and an honor. The weight of responsibility for her life has hit me full force and I am so thankful that I get to raise her. It is something that I don't take lightly!

Right after being admitted.

Before the epidural.

After the epidural, I was a little bit more relaxed to say the least!

Before the epidural.

This was when I was laboring down before the pushing began.

Right after Liberty was born.

These next shots are not so pretty but honestly who cares. I just pushed an 8 lbs human out of me!! :)

My hubby is in love!

Liberty Mitchell. 8 lbs, 1 oz, 21 inches long.

My husband and I are so thankful for all of our family and friends for their support! We are so incredibly blessed to have our little girl and are excited to see what the future holds for us.

Hope you all have a fab Tuesday!

Abi
